Several of the dimensions, such as the 1/16" and 1/8" are available in two different places, and can be used two different ways. The end of the tool is designed to stick down between the strings on a grand piano, to measure let off and drop by touch, or placed in front of the strings on a vertical for the same purpose. And it can be laid flat against the strings for the same measurement, because of the two tier level of the tool.
The hole in the tool can be used to hang it on the wall in your shop.
